Coping with Crying Baby

‘Nobody listens to me’, ‘they don’t understand me’, ‘I need food mama’ - these might be a few things running inside your baby’s mind while he/she is crying. Babies cry because they need your attention, they need you to attend to their needs at that time. Babies cry because, crying is the only way they can communicate to you and express their needs, problems or pain. Babies have different types of tones in which they cry, and each type or sound conveys different meanings. It becomes easier for any parent to attend to their babies, once they start understanding and relating to the crying pattern. However, it is quite simplistic to say ‘it is easy’. It is not always so easy for a parent to console a crying baby, especially if he/she is crying due to some pain or illness. Bouts of crying in babies can get very distressful for the parents, when they don’t know what to do when their baby is crying. Therefore, it is very important for a parent to relate to their baby’s cry and know exactly what to do to cope with it. This article will provide you with few tips on dealing with a crying infant.

How To Cope With A Crying Baby
If your baby is alone and starts crying, attend to him/her first, leaving all your work behind. Soothe the baby by speaking singing to him/her.
Babies love being close to their parents and love to listen to their heartbeat. This makes them secure and give them a sense of belonging. So whenever your baby starts crying, lift it up and hold it close to yourself.
Newborns show a preference for feeling warm and snug, just as they were inside the womb. You can always try swathing them in a blanket and see whether they stop crying. Of course, you should not try doing this in the peak of summer! You can also hold them close to you.
Babies can get weird at times. If you go on to feed them, they might refuse and continue crying. In this case a pacifier will just play the trick, making them involved and stop crying.
If your baby is crying, check his/her diaper. Check also for the presence of any diaper rash or whether any diaper pin has come out.
If the room is too warm or cold for the baby, take steps to meet the requirements. It might also be the feeding time for the baby. Make the necessary changes to keep your baby comfortable.
A slow sweet music, a lullaby by you, or any other soothing sound can calm down your baby’s senses, and can help him/her stop crying.
